Plan your visit

Following the storms in the winter of 2024/25 National Resources Wales are struggling to deal with all the routes through Brechfa Forest affected by wind blown trees. On this page we will share updates as they are available.

Llanllwni Mountain

Llanllwni Mountain is a large area of common land over which walkers, and horse riders have the right to roam. Many of the paths are ancient turf providing pleasant walking conditions and there are fantastic views from the high places. There are sheep, cattle and horses grazing the common land so dog walkers must keep their dogs on a lead. A network of bridleways and byways are available for mountain bike users.

Brechfa Forest

If you are visiting the area and are staying with an accommodation provider please take the time to talk with your host to find out the details of which routes are open from your accommodation. They will be keeping up to date on where NRW and county council staff have been working. We strongly recommend carrying an OS map with you so that if you encounter problems you can plan an alternative route. Please remember that many walking apps do not show the public rights of way.

Most of the promoted walks in Brechfa Forest are closed. The exception is Gwarallt this is a short circular walk.

Visitors parking at Keepers car park can walk down to the stream via the forest roads, but not via the promoted walk.

Most of the forest roads on the western side of Brechfa Forest are open for walkers, riders and cyclists.

Many areas on the Western side of the forest including the forest garden and playground in Abergorlech remain closed this includes public rights of way that run through the forest. –

Mountain Bike Trails

The mountain bike trails have reopened with diversions onto forest roads.
