Brechfa Forest is the modern name for the ancient forest – Glyn Cothi. Our forest has been at the heart of our comunity for at least 1000 years.
From time to time we celebrate the atractiveness and heritage of our forest and mountain by running a photography, writing, or art competition.
Perched along the ridgeline overlooking the Cothi Valley, ancient Iron Age burial mounds stand as silent sentinels. Legend holds that these are the final resting places of Welsh princes, whose spirits still keep a watchful eye over the territory they once ruled. While Victorian-era excavations identified the tombs were empty, the mounds remain archaeologically fascinating because of their deliberate alignments and interconnected sightlines. To celebrate this rich heritage, we are hosting a winter photography competition. We invite you to capture the breathtaking vistas that originally inspired our ancestors to watch over and protect this land.

We love encouraging visitors to understand and explore our local history, but we also want to keep it safe! Please remember that these burial mounds are highly protected sites with Scheduled Monument Status under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. To help preserve our shared heritage, please respect the landscape: it is strictly illegal to damage these monuments or use a metal detector on or near them

Coedwig Brechfa yw’r enw modern ar y goedwig hynafol – Glyn Cothi. Mae ein coedwig wedi bod wrth galon ein cymuned ers o leiaf 1,000 o flynyddoedd.
O bryd i’w gilydd, rydym yn dathlu harddwch a threftadaeth ein coedwig drwy gynnal cystadleuaeth ffotograffiaeth, ysgrifennu neu gelf.
Wedi’u gosod ar hyd y grib sy’n edrych dros Ddyffryn Cothi, mae tomenni claddu hynafol o’r Oes Haearn yn sefyll fel gwarchodwyr mud. Yn ôl y chwedl, dyma fannau gorffwys olaf tywysogion Cymru, y mae eu hysbrydion yn dal i gadw llygad gwyliadwrus dros y tiriogaethau a reolwyd ganddynt unwaith. Er bod gwaith cloddio yn yr oes Fictoraidd wedi canfod bod y beddau’n wag, mae’r tomenni yn dal i fod yn hynod ddiddorol o safbwynt archaeolegol oherwydd eu rhesi bwriadol a’r llinellau gweld rhyngddynt. I ddathlu’r treftadaeth gyfoethog hon, rydym yn trefnu cystadleuaeth ffotograffiaeth gaeaf. Gwahoddwn chi i gipio’r golygfeydd syfrdanol a ysbrydolodd ein hynafiaid yn wreiddiol i wylio dros y wlad hon a’i hamddiffyn.
